Advanced Specialization at a Center That Shaped the History of Science
The University of Zurich stands out as a deeply rooted institution with a distinguished legacy not only in medicine but also in the history of science. As the university where Albert Einstein earned his PhD, it has also played a pivotal role in the evolution of modern cardiology.
On September 16, 1977, Andreas Grüntzig, working at the University Hospital Zurich, performed the world’s first percutaneous coronary balloon angioplasty (PCI)—a groundbreaking procedure that laid the foundation for interventional cardiology. The same institution where Dr. Kakar received his advanced training continues to lead innovative research and clinical excellence in cardiology today.
